- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups milk, divided
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4–5 medium Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Season the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, then form into 6 patties.
- Brown the beef patties in a skillet over medium heat and set aside.
- In the same skillet, whisk 1 cup of milk with the flour to make a gravy. Add the remaining milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Place the browned patties on top.
- Layer the remaining potatoes and onions on top of the patties and pour the gravy evenly over everything.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, uncover the casserole, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can add more flour to the milk mixture.
- This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
