- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Glaze (optional):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or a bundt pan.
- Prepare the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the applesauce.
- Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Mix the batter: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the raisins and nuts, if using.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cake: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the glaze (optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
- Serve: Slice and enjoy this warm, spiced treat with a cup of coffee or tea.
Notes
- You can leave out the raisins and nuts if you prefer a simpler cake.
- Make sure the cake cools completely before glazing, to prevent the glaze from melting off.
