Description
This indulgent Black Magic Cake is rich, moist, and made with a surprising ingredient—coffee! A decadent chocolate cake that’s perfect for any occasion
Ingredients
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
-
Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour the coffee, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract into the well. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. The batter will be thin—don’t worry, that’s normal!
-
Pour & Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
-
Cool the Cake: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Fill & Frost: Once fully cooled, fill and frost with your favorite frosting—chocolate buttercream, cream cheese frosting, or a classic ganache work beautifully!
Notes
- This cake works well as a layer cake or in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Be sure to let the cake cool completely before frosting to avoid the frosting melting.
