Description

Amatriciana is a savory pasta dish featuring a rich tomato sauce made with ground beef, onions, garlic, and red pepper flakes, finished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices ground beef, diced
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 pound linguine pasta, uncooked
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the diced ground beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Remove any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3–4 minutes, until the onion is softened.
  3. Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes and stewed tomatoes. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. While the sauce simmers, cook the linguine pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. Stir the chopped fresh basil into the tomato sauce.
  6. Toss the cooked linguine pasta with the Amatriciana sauce until well coated.
  7. Serve with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
  • Feel free to use any type of pasta if you don’t have linguine.
  • For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey for the beef.
